LeBron James says he wants to be the greatest of all time, but far away from it

Today is media day for some NBA teams around the country. An interesting quote came out of the Miami Heat media day, and it doesn’t revolve around winning 5…6…7… NBA Championships. Heat superstar LeBron James talked about the debate about “greatest player of all time” and his résumé.

“I want to be the greatest of all time,” James said. “It’s that simple, I’m far away from it, but I see the light.”

The Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan comparison is a bar debate that no body ever seems to win.

“That’s the life,” James said in February, via SI.com. “I understand it. That’s the life I live in. The comparisons are going to come. I’d rather be compared to Michael Jordan than somebody who wasn’t in the league very long. It’s very humbling. I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given. Mike is in his own lane and I try to create my own.”

It will be interesting to see if he can three-peat this year with the Miami Heat. If he does in fact three-peat, the comparisons will continue. Jordan won six championships with a pair of three-peats. It will also make life difficult for LeBron James, he could be a free agent next summer if he opts out of his contract. He could even leave Miami after three-peating.

He might be tempted to stay and do something Jordan has never done. Win 4 straight NBA Championships.
