There were whispers last week of a historic point spread from our friends in Las Vegas, and on Tuesday, there was real evidence that it could be on the way.

Chad Millman, who is ESPN’s gambling expert, reports that the Las Vegas Hilton has set the Broncos as a 26-point favorite, and if that number holds (or rises), it would be the largest point spread in the history of the NFL.

I repeat, the history of the NFL.

Obviously, this is the perfect storm for Vegas, as Denver is red-hot, putting up video game numbers offensively on the back of Peyton Manning and company, and Jacksonville has been one of the worst 4-game disasters in NFL history. There were widespread rumors of a 4-touchdown spread, and while this isn’t quite that number, it is darn close.

Moving forward, it will be incredibly interesting to see if this number rises, but if anything, that is the only way this line could go. Frankly, there is no scenario in which any “public” gambler would place funds on the Jaguars at this point, and as a result, the flood of wagers on Denver could drive the number north toward the 30-point range.

Either way, there could be history made in Week 6.
