Remember when Matt Flynn was signed to be the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders? Well, he was overtaken by former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor on the depth chart before the start of the season, and began the year on the bench.

Remember when Matt Flynn was promoted to the starting QB position for Week 4 after Terrelle Pryor couldn’t play due to a concussion? Well, that didn’t last long, either…

This bombshell by Jay Glazer (courtesy of the Raiders themselves) is certainly a surprise, but I’m not sure it should be. Flynn continues to get high-profile jobs without doing anything real on the field, and this week’s demotion (behind former Penn State QB Matt McGloin) is another example.

In last week’s start, Flynn wasn’t a complete disaster by the numbers. He went 21-for-32 for 227 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception, but in the aftermath of the game, he was called out by his own head coach for poor play, and he certainly didn’t pass the eye test.

It’s unclear whether his demotion to 3rd-string was based on Sunday’s efforts or early practice reports this week, but either way, Matt Flynn continues to languish in obscurity.
