The Cleveland Browns lost their starting quarterback Brian Hoyer early in the Thursday night match up against the Buffalo Bills and he wasn’t the only signal-caller to go down with an injured knee.

After learning that Hoyer would need to undergo an MRI and that the Browns feared a torn ligament in his knee, Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel went down with a knee injury of his own.

Manuel was running down the sideline for the first down, when he took a hit directly to his knee that sent him to the turf in pain. The good news is that Manuel was able to limp off the field under his own power.

It was a run that Manuel would have been wise to slide or run out of bounds after, but he decided to fight for the extra yards and paid the price with a huge hit from Browns safety Tashaun Gipson.

Manuel was able to walk along the sidelines and attempt to fight through the pain, but there was no immediate word on his status.

We will update you on Manuel’s status as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: Manuel is officially listed as “doubtful” for his return.
