Nets’ GM Billy King sets window for title: ‘this season’

The Nets made some splashes in the off-season when they traded for Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry. Team those guys with Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, and you have a championship contender. Obviously, KG, Pierce, and Terry are all older, and they don’t have much left in the tank. In 5 years, those 3 guys will likely be retired, and we will see a new Nets team. So how long is the window for the Nets? Not long according to their GM:

"Now, this is the window — this season,” the Nets’ general manager said Wednesday at Duke University, where the team is holding its training camp. “We’re going to see what we can do with this season, and then we’ll see what next season brings.”"

Kevin Garnett has said he was close to retiring, so Billy King may have a point. The East is extremely talented this season, so the chances are smaller, but the Nets are talented, and have something to prove. They shouldn’t have any issues on offense, but defense and toughness will be the difference for this squad. Jason Kidd will have to prove that he can be a good head coach, and it seems as if he is relying heavily on assistant Lawrence Frank. As for KG? He spoke on why he returned:

"“That’s the only reason I came back man,” said Garnett, who is entering his 19th season. “I like the bones of this team and what I thought I could bring to this team could help.”"

The Nets have some age, but they are serious contenders.
