I thought free agency for position players were going to be intense this off-season, right now Joe Girardi’s name is the biggest out of every free agent when it comes to players and managers.

We all know the New York Yankees pretty much have all the money in the world, as they are one of the richest sports franchises in sports history.

With teams like the Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals watching from the sidelines with possible offers ready to be submitted to Girardi, the Yankees are trying to keep their club leader in uniform. This season Girardi made around $3 million for just this season and could see a big raise from the Yankees to keep him from going anywhere else.

But as of right now there is supposedly a “gap” in the contract talks between the Yankees and Girardi according to Newark Star-Ledger writer Andy McCullough.

The Yankees are expected to deny any requests from teams to speak to Girardi before they get an answer from him. Talks have been going on since Wednesday and the team should be expecting an answer within the next couple of days.

So we should know if Girardi will stay with the Yankees by the end of the weekend or take his talents elsewhere. If that happens, we should all expect the Washington Nationals, Chicago Cubs and now the Cincinnati Reds to be in a triple threat match for him.
