Oakland Raiders have ‘definite interest’ in quarterback Josh Freeman

The Oakland Raiders seemingly finally settled on a quarterback thanks to the solid play from Terrelle Pryor, however, their backup options are less than stellar. That could be why they apparently have interested in quarterback Josh Freeman, this according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Oakland Raiders have a definite interest in Josh Freeman. Moving slowly. Cant make mistake on another QB. #mattflynn#jamarcusrussell.

I can’t imagine they’d have any desire to bring Freeman aboard to take over for Pryor (at least, I’d hope not) so the addition would likely be to improve their backup spot. Add in the concussion issues that Pryor could potentially have and improving their number two quarterback seems like a solid move.

The Raiders certainly would like to avoid a situation where Pryor misses time and they’re forced to throw Matt Flynn or Matt McGloin to the wolves, so the interest seems understandable. Of course, at the first sign of a misstep for Pryor, there will likely be a (pointless) quarterback controversy, but that’s nearly unavoidable unless you have a Pro-Bowl quarterback under center.

We do need him…. Look what happene when pryor got hurt…. We suck with flynn. They gonna pick up freeman plug him at #2 and dump flynn watch. AND HES FREE! TAMPA HA TO PAY HIS CONTRACT NOT OAKLAND SO WHY NOT??

  • Chris Schroeder

Freeman put up over 4000 yards and 27 touchdowns last year. Any true Raiders fan that does not want freeman to come over barring no cost of their own since Tampa Bay is paying out his contract is just as foolish as foolish could be. Yes, Pryor has a lot of upside and is exciting to watch but yet somehow we are still 1-3. If he is a back up, fine if he comes into compete for a starting job, fine, whatever the case may be Freeman is a proven NFL quarterback. And under Greg Olsen is when he was at his best. I would plead with Raiders to please bring over Josh Freeman, don’t be stupid this guy is a diamond in the rough. He took a garbage Tampa Bay team and made them one of the NFL’s most potent offenses. This dude is the real deal with the right staf behind him. No doubt!!!
