The Oakland Raiders seemingly finally settled on a quarterback thanks to the solid play from Terrelle Pryor, however, their backup options are less than stellar. That could be why they apparently have interested in quarterback Josh Freeman, this according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

"The Oakland Raiders have a definite interest in Josh Freeman. Moving slowly. Cant make mistake on another QB. #mattflynn#jamarcusrussell."

I can’t imagine they’d have any desire to bring Freeman aboard to take over for Pryor (at least, I’d hope not) so the addition would likely be to improve their backup spot. Add in the concussion issues that Pryor could potentially have and improving their number two quarterback seems like a solid move.

The Raiders certainly would like to avoid a situation where Pryor misses time and they’re forced to throw Matt Flynn or Matt McGloin to the wolves, so the interest seems understandable. Of course, at the first sign of a misstep for Pryor, there will likely be a (pointless) quarterback controversy, but that’s nearly unavoidable unless you have a Pro-Bowl quarterback under center.
