In a move that comes as a surprise to — wait for it — no one, the New England Patriots have officially announced that tight end Rob Gronkowski has been ruled out for the team’s Week 5 match up against the Cincinnati Bengals.

As the week went on, there were more and more reports surfacing that the team was doubtful Gronkowski would be healthy enough to make his regular season debut and the pessimism was confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

Not only will Gronkowski not suit up for the team on Sunday, but he did not even make the trip.

From Adam Schefter of ESPN:

Without Gronkowski and following the release of Zach Sudfeld, the Patriots will roll with the duo of  Michael Hoomanawanui and Matthew Mulligan to fill the position.

The good news for New England is that Gronkowski seems just a week or two away from his return.
