WWE BattleGround Results: Alberto Del Rio vs Rob Van Dam (World Heavyweight Championship)

Tonight’s pay per view kicks off with the World Heavyweight Championship which will feature BattleGround Hardcore Rules!

First one out to the ring is the challenger Rob Van Dam who has a lot of experience with hardcore rules going back to his Extreme Championship Wrestling and time as Hardcore Champion days.

Finally making his way to the ring is the World Heavyweight Champion himself, Alberto Del Rio. Tonight could be the night that Damien Sandow finally cashes in his brief case as these two competitors should be battered and bruised well after the match is finished.

So whoever is Champion, may not be for long. Both men are in the ring, Del Rio holds the title high above his head after making sure Van Dam and Ricardo back off and give him space.

The bell sounds after both of their wrestlers have their names announced. Del Rio rushes RVD and unleashes a couple kicks and headbutts to the skull. Del Rio hits a snap suplex on RVD and gets a one count on the challenger. He rolls out of the ring to look for a weapon but catches a baseball slide by the challenger.

RVD takes control outside the ring and hits a springboard moonsault from the barricade. Van Dam rolls the champion into the ring and pulls out a steel chair which gets approval from the crowd. Del Rio rushes and catches a steel chair to the gut then hits a springboard DDT ontop of the chair!

He covers the champion but only gets a two count after planting him head first into that chair. Del Rio quickly shakes it off, throws RVD chest first into the corner, catches him on the rebound and hits a brutal backstabber. Pins the challenger and picks up only a two count.

The champion now has the chair in his hand, getting a wave of boos from the crowd as he drives the chair into the midsection of the challenger then unleashes a set of chairshots to his back. He pins RVD and picks up a two count. RVD tries to fight back against the champion but takes a boot to the face.

Alberto picks the chair up once again and wedges it between the ropes in a corner. He walks after RVD and takes a spinning kick to the face. RVD drives the boot into the champions throat then catches him with a springboard leg drop on the apron.

Ricardo helps RVD pull out a ladder and the crowd goes absolutely nuts. The challenger slides the ladder into the ring and hits a top rope thrust kick on the champion. He sets the ladder up in the corner as Del Rio rolls to the opposite corner in pain.

Van Dam unleashes stomps to the back of Del Rio and sends him flying into the ladder which sends him flying to the mat outside the ring. The challenger follows and pulls him up to his feet. He slides him into the ring and covers for a cover only to pick up a two count.

The crowd begins to chant We Want Tables as RVD adjusts the ladder that sits in the corner. He delivers stomps to the head, a kick to the gut and throws him into the ladder again. Del Rio rests up against the ladder and attempts to hit a monkey flip but misses. Van Dam catches the ladder and holds on, allowing the champion to hit his signature kick to the back of his head.

The champion once again taunts the crowd and picks up a lot of heat. He slides out of the ring looking for a weapon and pulls out a trash can. He slides it into the ring and smashes it across the back of the hardcore veteran. The trash can is nearly smashed closed after shots to the back of Van Dam.

The champion goes to hit a move from the middle turnbuckle with the trash can but takes a drop kick. Van Dam slams Del Rio onto the ladder then hits a split legged moonsault on the champion who lays ontop of the ladder. He covers and picks up a two count. He grabs the ladder once again and sets it across the ring.

This match up so far has taken a lot out of both competitors. RVD unleashes a a couple kicks to Del Rio that sends him onto the ladder. RVD attempts rolling thunder but the champion rolls out of the way, sending himself back first into the ladder. Del Rio rushes over and grabs the arm, locking in the cross arm breaker.

Ricardo grabs a bucket and slides in, hitting the champion in the shoulder. RVD rolls up Del Rio but he kicks out! He throws out the challenger which leaves Del Rio and Ricardo standing alone in the ring. He tells Ricardo to hand him over the bucket in Spanish but takes a kick to the gut and more shots to the back with the bucket.

Ricardo goes after the champion outside the ring but gets thrown into the barricade and takes a strong kick to the face. Van Dam drop kicks the ladder into the champion who lays outside the ring with the ladder across his chest.

Rob Van Dam pulls himself onto the apron and hits a five star frog splash from the apron onto the ladder causing damage to himself and Del Rio. He rolls the champion into the ring but gets a two in a half count. RVD attempts the Van-terminator but Del Rio rolls out of the way.

RVD gets his arm caught in a chair and gets it stomped. Del Rio locks in the cross-arm breaker with the chair still wrapped around his arm and picks up the victory.
