When Carmelo Anthony left the Denver Nuggets to come play for the Knicks, A’mare Stoudmire was one of the biggest reasons he joined the team in the first place. But he couldn’t expect Stoudemire to be hurt for most of his time in New York.

Via ESPN New York:

"He was one of the reasons why I wanted to come to New York. So for me not to have that chance, the opportunity to get a full season in and get a rhythm going with him — it’s not something I thought would happen."

Amar’e Stoudemire only played in 29 games last season for the Knicks; he had two different knee procedures which prohibited him from playing more.

There are many critics of the Knicks’ duo, saying that when they are together, they don’t play as well as when one is on the court without the other. But Stoudemire thinks that the Knicks have come a long way since they signed him back in 2010.

"Since I’ve been in New York, we’ve made great progress for the organization. We are a team to watch. We have more TV games now than we had before. But on top of that we’ve been to the postseason every single year, and that was a part of my goal of coming here: to build something that will allow us to improve. Unfortunately injuries played a factor after I was here that first year. But I do envision myself getting healthy and being able to dominate as I once did before."

Both Carmelo and Stoudemire are optimistic about each other playing together, and obviously wish that it will happen sooner than later. For now, Amar’e will miss at least the first three preseason games for the Knicks while he is recovering from his knee procedures
