Not many people outside of Dallas are giving the Mavericks a chance to do particularly well next season. Many think that if the Mavs make the playoffs, they’ll be one of the lower seeds. So what does the Dallas Maverick’s outspoken owner think about the Mavs’ chances?

“I don’t make predictions. You know that,” owner Mark Cuban said, via ESPN Dallas. “But if we stay healthy, I think we’ll surprise some people.”

Injuries have been a problem for the Mavs the past couple seasons, especially to star player forward Dirk Nowitzki. They play in a tough conference, and a tough division. The Houston Rockets just added Dwight Howard this summer and will be contenders, their division also has the defending Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs in it.

The Mavericks weren’t able to win the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, that left them fumbling for a plan B for the second year in a row. They signed guards Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon.

“Obviously, I’m positive every year, but when you talk to our guys who have been here, the first thing they’ll say is, ‘We’ve got some talent, we’ve got some depth.’ I think we have more talent and depth than last year, but we’ll play the games.

“I still really think it comes down to health. If Dirk stays healthy, Vince [Carter] stays healthy,Shawn [Marion] stays healthy, then I think we’ll be good.”
