San Fransisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio suggested that, while healthy, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha may be left on the inactive list for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Just a few years ago, Asomugha was viewed as the signing of the off-season by the Philadelphia. Now, with the Niners, he may be a healthy inactive in Week 6, and perhaps for longer.

The 32 year old corner has failed to find an established role in San Fransisco, and after Tremaine Brock stepped into the nickel role, it appears he has gotten even farther away from being an actual contributor to the team. Brock was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week, and with Eric Wright on his way back soon, Asomugha could be looking for a new home shortly.

Regardless, the former shutdown corner of the Oakland Raiders likely would not last too long on the open market. Cornerbacks are of the premium in the NFL. Very few players can line up across from the other teams best receivers and shut them down in one-on-one man-to-man coverage.

A roster move involving Asomugha could be coming soon. If Brock continues to excel in Fangio’s defense and Wright comes back at 100%, San Fransisco will be a thing of the past for the former Pro Bowler.
