The time for Greg Oden to hit the court is almost here.
Now I’m not a fan of the Miami Heat, not a fan by a long shot, but it’s still exciting knowing that a big man like Oden who has a lot of potential can still play ball.
Oden deserves to be on a team like this. A team that’s winning championships and is in good shape to winning another one this season. When he is fully healthy, he should be their starting Center which should take some pressure off of LeBron from having to nearly break the backboard after swatting away layups or dunks.
Back to business. Oten has officially been cleared to participate in five on five workouts sometime next week according to Mike Wallace on Twitter. It’s a huge step in the right direction as he continues to push towards a full return.
There’s still a good chance that Oden could play a game or two in the pre-season, but right now this team is allowing him to take giant baby steps. He has giant shoes, if anybody missed the punchline there.
The organization will take it easy on him and not expect way too much from him right away. He could pick up around 15 minutes per game to start off with and gain more playing time the healthier he gets. As I said in a couple paragraphs above.
Posting to ESPN: Oden likely to be cleared for 5-on-5 practice work *NEXT* week, with eye on making debut in one of final preseason games.
