Last week, Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall wore a pair of neon green cleats during an NFL game, a violation of league rules. Marshall had good intentions and did so to promote Mental Health Awareness week. Marshall himself was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder two years ago.
“I’m going to get fined, and I’m going to match that, and we want to partner with a cancer-care charity,” he said, via the New York Daily News.
“We’re still working on the details to give, really give back to an organization that is doing work in the mental health area. Also, the diagnosis of breast cancer can hit families hard.”
The league is currently in the middle of their breast cancer awareness publicity. Many of his teammates were wearing pink cleats.
NFL is expected to fine Bears WR Brandon Marshall $5,250 for wearing green shoes Thursday night in honor of Mental Health Awareness week.

You can’t fault him for doing it, and you can’t fault the NFL for having to follow the rules and fine him. $5,250 seems like a fairly reasonable amount. It is a minor fine in the grand scheme of things.
