Hakeem Nicks on rumors: “I’m a Giant.”

Hakeem Nicks has heard the rumors involving his name in potential trades and his response:

“I’m a Giant, and that’s the only thing I can focus on right now,” Nicks said after the Giants’ practice Monday morning. “I’m a Giant, and I love playing for the Giants. I’m a Giant right now, and I’m going to stand strong on that.”

Nicks has been mentioned in countless rumors as the

New York Giants

have had a disastrous season that has even the most die-hard of fans left to hold onto the math that keeps them alive in a potential playoff scenario.

Eli Manning

is on an incredible pace for interceptions this season, the offensive line is a train wreck right now between injuries and just struggles from the group they have including first round pick

Justin Pugh

.  The natural reaction in sports is the idea that a team would look to dump players for future assets, although this is not terribly common in football.

The Browns surprised the NFL when they traded running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a 1st round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft after an 0-2 start.  They went on to win their next three games before losing this week to the Lions.  Everyone is looking around the league to see if some of these teams with terrible records will do a similar type of deal.

There was plenty of speculation around Josh Freeman before he was ultimately released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and there is plenty of speculation circling what the Jacksonville Jaguars will do with Maurice Jones-Drew after they had previously traded Eugene Monroe to the Baltimore Ravens for some late round assets.

The Giants are 0-6 and there is little reason for hope at this point, but Nicks remains resilient.  It would be easy for him to basically ask for a trade or welcome the rumors considering their current situation, but he seems to be happy where he is at least publicly.
