It’s not as if Matt Cassel had a very long leash on the Minnesota Vikings’ starting quarterback job, though whatever limited leash he had, it’s likely been yanked.

After a poor performance in a drubbing to the Carolina Panthers, it appears quite possible his stint as the Vikings’ lead signal caller is over, just a couple weeks after it began.

The writing was on the wall when Minnesota signed Josh Freeman last Sunday and there’s a chance we may see Freeman under center for Week 7 as head coach Leslie Frazier said ‘we’ll see’ when pressed about the option:

"“I’m not sure,” Frazier said. “We’ll take a look when we get with him this week and see where he is. We’ve done some things with him in this first week. We’ll see.”"

Doesn’t exactly sound like a ringing endorsement for Cassel nor an outright denial in regards to Freeman starting.

Of course, the Vikings could give the ball to Christian Ponder but that seems like a last resort scenario. It sounds as if Freeman could very likely get the call, assuming he impresses the coaching staff enough in practice this week.
