Fantasy Football: Why Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams is must-add

Oct 13, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams (83) catches a touchdown pass against Washington Redskins cornerback E.J. Biggers (30) in the third quarter of the game at AT

It’s very rare you can find a big-play receiver on the waiver wire midway through the fantasy football season, but that’s the case with Dallas Cowboys WR Terrance Williams. With defenses focusing their coverage on All-Pro receiver Dez Bryant, that’s opening up the field for others to step-up for quarterback Tony Romo and make plays in the passing game, and with injuries to their top running backs, the Boyz will likely keep airing it out against their opponents.

That means a lot of production for the rookie Williams, who’s gained the trust now of Romo, and he’s caught 13 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the past three games, and it may be just the beginning of Williams’ breakout.

Per Numbers Fire, Williams Williams has the highest yards per target rate and best catch rate in the NFL:

Williams has been a big play guy with Miles Austin hampered by injury over the last few weeks. He’s been targeted 21 times and has caught 18 of them (85.7%), and has a 14.7 yards per target average. Williams now has 13 receptions for 249 yards and two touchdowns over the last three weeks, and will be a sneaky start again this week against the league’s worst defense against fantasy receivers.

After a slow start to he year, Willaims has the trust of his teammates and coaches due in large part to his dedication to working as hard as possible to help keep the Cowboys atop the NFC East:

”Terrance has done a really nice job,”Head coach Jason Garrett said.“He’s certainly a very good athlete. He’s a big guy. He’s got speed and quickness and good natural route running ability. But as much as anything else, it’s just his work ethic. It’s really important to him. He works very hard at it. He learns from the experience he has, both good and bad, and he really grows. A real tribute to the approach he takes each week.”
