There was some doubt that New England Patriots defensive back Aqib Talib would be able to play on Sunday in the big AFC East match up against the New York Jets. However, Talib took a step towards his return on Friday morning when he was present for the team’s practice session that was open to the media.

From Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston:

With Vince Wilfork and Jerod Mayo already ruled out, the team can ill-afford to lose Talib.

If he is able to make significant progress on Friday and show no soreness over the weekend, there could still be a chance that he will be able to take the field and wreak havoc against Jets rookie signal-caller Geno Smith.

We would expect Talib to be considered a game-time decision for Sunday’s game, but there should still be some skepticism about whether or not he can really play.
