Aldon Smith to hopefully re-join San Francisco 49ers in ‘couple of weeks’
By Bryan Rose
Things aren’t exactly peachy for San Francisco 49ers linebacker, Aldon Smith. Currently in rehab for alcoholism and facing felony gun charges, football is likely the last thing on Smith’s mind but that could be changing soon as 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said he’s hopeful Smith will re-join the team in a ‘couple of weeks’.
"Jim Harbaugh said today the hope among the 49ers is that Aldon Smith, who is currently in an in-patient treatment program, will re-join the team in the next “couple of weeks.”"
The 49ers travel to London for their Week 8 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars and have a bye in Week 9, so it’s possible that Smith could very well return for their Week 10 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
Harbaugh did state that while he’s hopeful Smith will return in that time frame, he obviously couldn’t guarantee anything given the nature of the situation so he didn’t want to give a definitive date of return.
He did however say that things are going ‘very well’ for Smith in his recovery, so it does appear we’ll see him back with the team before the season concludes.
