Martellus Bennett isn’t a fan of Brandon Meriweather

Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather is earning himself a reputation for dirty helmet-to-helmet hits that have been knocking out his opponents around the league. Following repeat offenses with the most recent coming against the Chicago Bears, Meriweather was handed a two-game suspension from the NFL.
However, that punishment is not enough in the eyes of some players.
Bears tight end Martellus Bennett spoke out after the game and made it very clear that he’s not a fan of Meriweather and that players need to do a better job at protecting each other.
“He’s a scumbag,” Bennett told The Boers and Bernstein Show on WSCR in Chicago. “I still want to punch him in the face.
“What it comes down to, at the end of the day, the players have got to look out for the players. There’s a way to go out there and be a beast when you hit people, and have nobody want to come across the middle. But then there’s a way not to do it, where you’re deliberately hitting guys [high] or after the game you’re saying, ‘Oh, I’ve got to pay,’ because you know what you did was wrong when you were doing it. Then it just becomes wrong.”
If Meriweather doesn’t clean up the way he hits, then the fines and suspensions will keep on coming until he is no longer welcome in the league.
He fails to get it and has consistently ignored the rules, so he has what is coming to him.
