With first pitch just a matter of hours away, the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox have announced their Game 1 lineups for the 2013 World Series.

For St. Louis, they’ll see the return of Allen Craig who has missed over a month of action with a foot injury. Craig is still not completely healthy, though has taken multiple rounds of batting practice and will serve as the Cardinals’ primary designated hitter for the series. He’s likely to be limited if he reaches base however.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox will give the start in left field to Jonny Gomes, who continues to replace the fleet footed Daniel Nava. Red Sox manager John Farrell suggested that Gomes’ ability to run the bases smartly along with his defense in left field off the Monster was the reasoning behind the decision. Nava is expected to play at least once when the series switches to St. Louis.
