NFL Teams on upset alert in Week 8
By Mike Dyce
We’re almost to the mid-point of the season, which technically comes in between weeks eight and nine. Divisional standings are started to separate and establish pecking orders as we enter the second half of the season. Some NFL teams are trying to turn around their ugly start to the season in the second half.
We’ve seen teams with strong first halves of the season stumble towards the end of the season and this season will be no different. So what teams will be on upset alert this week? It is had to pick teams because it seems like all the favored teams this week should win in their match ups. I still managed to pick one that I think could end up getting interesting.
Washington Redskins at Denver Broncos
Heading into this season I bet this game was viewed as a marquee match up. The Broncos are coming off their first lost of the season and it is crazy to think that they’d lose in back-to-back games. It could happen though.
The Redskins are finally beginning to hit their stride. They beat the Chicago Bears 45-41 in a shoot out, albeit with out quarterback Jay Cutler. They proved they can win a shoot out though, which they could face against the Broncos.
The Broncos defense isn’t stout. They’re last in the NFL and first in the league against the rush. I think that could have more to do with teams abandoning the run in order to keep up with the Broncos scoring. With Robert Griffin III dropping back to pass and then taking off, he could exploit this defense. The Redskins offense is also ranked in the top 10 in pass offense and run offense.
RG3 also hit his stride last week. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 298 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 11 times for 84 yards.
