The San Francisco 49ers acquired defensive back Eric Wright from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past offseason, only to rescind the trade literally hours later after Wright was involved in a drunk driving incident. That eventually lead to the Buccaneers releasing Wright soon after, allowing the 49ers to pick up Wright for free.

Unfortunately for Wright and the 49ers, the defensive back ended up hurting himself and he’s yet to play in a game for the Niners since his acquisition, but that may be coming to a change as Wright has been cleared to resume practicing.

Of course, when he is ready (assuming there are no setbacks), it’s going to force the Niners to make a roster move, one that CSN Bay Area suggests may come at the expense of Nnamdi Asomugha:

"There is not a clear role for Wright when the 49ers decide to create space for him on the 53-man roster. That roster spot could come at the expense of veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who has been a healthy scratch for the past several games."

Asomugha has been pretty brutal for the 49ers this season, looking like a shell of his former Pro Bowl self.
