It’s looking more and more likely that Rashard Mendenhall will miss the Arizona Cardinals’ Week 8 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, this after missing practice yet again with a nagging toe injury.

"BA mentioned Rashard Mendenhall (toe) will be Doubtful vs Atlanta. Andre Ellington could get the start, Stepfan Taylor would be the back up."

Of note from Jurecki is who could start – Andre Ellington.

The Cardinals have repeatedly suggeted they plan to be careful with the tiny framed Ellington, though his is the most talented of the grouping and holds the longest staying power in the starting lineup.

Granted, it’s a bit early to talk about Ellington supplanting Mendenhall in the starting lineup, but given how woeful Mendenhall has been this season, it’s something that needs to happen sooner than later. The team has already waited too long to take the struggling Mendenhall out of the starting role.

It’s also possible Ryan Williams or Alfonso Smith could draw the start if Mendenhall is unavailable, though either way one would think (hope?) Ellington would see an increase in touches.
