The New York Giants punt coverage has been flat out terrible this season, and the result has been three punt return touchdowns against the team. To put things into perspective, the other 31 teams in the NFL have totaled just 4 punt return touchdowns, so the Giants are doing something wrong.

No matter what the issue may be, Giants special teams coach Tom Quinn is hoping that the team can find an answer, because right now he is embarrassed by how his punting unit has performed.

It’s been awful,” Quinn said, via the Star-Ledger. “It’s frustrating. It’s not what our expectations are. It pisses you off and I hope it pisses everyone else off that’s in this building. To take away a shutout from the defense, that hurts. How many times do we have an opportunity to do that?

“It’s always something different. They’ve all been different circumstances and it hasn’t been good enough for anyone and we’ve been embarrassed by it.”

The Giants were able to get their first win of the season last weekend against the Minnesota Vikings, so maybe getting into the win column could be what this team needs to re-energize. At least they better hope so.

If the Giants don’t stop leaving the lanes open for punt returners to take it to the house against them, they won’t be enjoying victory many more times this year.
