You never want to experience a devastating hit an an NFL quarterback, but you certainly don’t want to experience it just minutes into the game.

Unfortunately for Dallas Cowboys signal caller Tony Romo, that’s how his afternoon started off as Detroit Lions tackle Nick Fairley blew up the Cowboys quarterback.

On a deep pass pattern, Romo dropped back though was quickly facing pressure. Knowing this, Romo knew he had to get rid of the ball quicker than he wanted, which resulted in an incomplete pass. It also resulted in Fairley laying the boom on Romo as he ate through the Cowboys’ offensive line.

Head down and target locked on Romo, Fairley went straight into the ribs/shoulder area just as Romo got rid of the pigskin, driving him into the Ford Field turf.

Romo stuck his arm out in an attempt to break his fall (which, while a natural reaction could’ve ended in an ugly fashion) and was clearly in pain, though remained in the game despite the huge hit.

Tougher guy than I am.
