Week nine looks to be another crazy one and fantasy owners deal with their second straight six-team bye week. The Broncos, Lions, 49ers, Giants, Cardinals, and Jaguars contain some valuable fantasy pieces that will be on the shelf this week meaning once again the depth of your team and your waiver wire skills will be put to the test.

There are plenty of options on the wire, and you can definitely help your team if you get the right pickups. To help you do that, each Tuesday right here on you can find our top 10 waiver wire pickups for the coming week. In each top 10, I include at least one quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end as well as a team defense with a favorable matchup in case you are streaming defenses or looking for a one-week fill in.

Throughout the rest of the week, keep coming back to Fansided’s fantasy page where you’ll find continuing coverage and analysis to help you get the win you need in week 9 even if injuries and bye-weeks stretch your roster pretty thin.

All players on this list or in the “best of the rest” are available in at least 50% of ESPN leagues as of Monday and their ownership percentages are included in parentheses. That means that some of the players on the list in the past (last week’s post available here) like Harry Douglas, Jordan Reed (pictured above), Jarrett Boykin, Justin Blackmon, Danny Woodhead, Alshon Jeffery, Jordan Cameron, Julius Thomas, Kenbrell Thompkins, Bilal Powell, and Julian Edelman are no longer eligible to appear even though they still make good pickups if they’re available.

If you’re not sure about your waiver claim or want some personalized advice, feel free to ask me on twitter @ZT_Sports or include the question in a comment at the bottom of the page. I’ll do my best to answer all your questions as quickly as possible.

All scoring references are from’s default scoring which simply is used to give a common baseline to work from. Adjust appropriately your team and league scoring system.

Here’s my top ten additions headed into week 9:

Hey ZT, I currently have Megatron, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Harry Douglas, Keenan Allen, and Terrence Williams. Do you think it’s still worth it for me to pickup Marvin Jones? And if so, who do you think I should ‘sacrifice’?

    • Fantasy CPR

Hey Aaron, nice receiving corps…. I think Jones is better than DHB going forward, but not by a whole lot. I wouldn’t drop Allen or Douglas for Jones, but if you can swap Hewyard-Bey for him I’d make the move.

      • Aaron Choi

Thanks. Waiver claim submitted. Let’s hope nobody else in my 12 person league wants him

Hey ZT, I need a QB on my bye week – would you go with Jack Locker or
Tyrelle Pryor in a league that gives only 4pts for a passing TD?

    • Fantasy CPR

For just a one-week add, I like Locker a bit better as they play the Rams on a short week.

Hey ZT, I am in an 8 man standard scoring league, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 Flex, 1 TE, 1 QB, 1 D
So I have a few questions
QB- I have Matt Ryan but he didn’t perform well last week and he is struggling with lack of receivers and a losing record. Do I start Matt Ryan or pick up and start P. Rivers, T. Pryor, or J. Locker?

Def- I have had Chicago who hasn’t been close to last years awesome stats and have a tough match up against Green Bay. I picked up the Saints D last week for bye and they have a decent match up again against the Jets. But the Colts are available for pick up and I do like their match up against the beat up Texans. So Bears, Colts, or Saints D this week and going into the future. Also do I drop Chicago?

I picked up Mike James from Tampa Bay last week. Tampa Bay is looking bad and even though James is their new feature back be hasn’t broken 7 fantasy points and I don’t feel confident starting him. Do I hold onto him to see if he turns around or do I try to pick up C.J. Spiller, R. White (WR), or Ben Tate to potentially sit on? Also I am sitting on Doug Martin, is he worth holding onto or do I drop Doug?

Sorry but last question, I have a potential trade offer of me trading away Vernon Davis for Demarco Murray? I do have Jordan Cameron as a back up TE I have been sitting on. .I like Murray and my running backs have been struggling. Should I accept? Another potential offer if I should keep Vernon would be me trading away Jordan Cameron for Chris Johnson?
My current running backs are Ridley, Fred Jackson, Stacy, MJD (bye) Doug Martin (injured), M. James (struggling team)

hey John! Lots of questions so I’ll go in order… QB-tough call but I’d go Philip Rivers for the week as he takes on the Redskins… Def-Colts and Saints are both good plays. I’d lean New Orleans in the short term. Indy has more upside. U definitely could drop Chicago and go Saints/Colts hybrid the rest of the way… RB-I’d hold both James and Martin for now but make the trade to get D-Murray. Murray is a nice pickup for Davis, just make sure you have someone for Cameron’s bye week in week 10… Hope that helps!

      • John

Thanks buddy, waiver wire submitted for Rivers. I do see another player with a bye for their QB. If Rivers is taken do I keep with Matt Ryan or pick up Pryor, Locker, Alex Smith, or Dalton?

        • Fantasy CPR

If you lose out on Rivers, I’d stay with Ryan for another week. Pryor, Locker, and Dalton may be better for this week but long-term I still think Ryan has the better ROS (rest-of-season)

    Hey ZT,

Interesting matchup I have this week. My competitor has Romo, Peterson, Jimmy Graham and Daryl Richardson as potential fantasy point hogs (Richardson not so much). He also has Bush and Cruz on byes. His only bench RB is Blount. (Ronnie Hillman on bye) and for some reason he’s still using roster space by holding onto Julio Jones, RGIII and Mike Williams. Silly, right? lol.

My byes this week are: Stafford, Vernon Davis and Blackmon. I’m starting Dalton, McCoy, Mike Tolbert, AJ Green, Kendall Wright, Timothy Wright (worried about him playing AT Seattle though) and *fingers crossed* Percy Harvin. I HAD Carolina DST but switched to Titans for a more favorable matchup. Carolina has a tough schedule the rest of the season, imho and the Titans have a pretty cake schedule as do the Colts D, so maybe they’re an option too?

On my bench, I’ve stashed Vereen and Jonathan Stewart just in case he’s healthy against ATL…and am choosing to sit Antonio Brown (@NE) in favor of Kendall Wright/Percy Harvin at flex.

Vinatieri is my kicker…but I picked him up and dropped Hartley. Good move? Possibly.

I have a lot of questions, so sorry in advance. Questions: Should I keep Carolina D AND Titans D for the rest of the season? I’d have to give up a roster spot. (easy to do if Stewart is out though) Should I start Tim Wright? I had thought about Gresham/Eifert to really get the QB – WR/TE combo this week but I don’t know. Also, Stewart or Tolbert? And do you think McCoy will do well against OAK defense? I’m a little worried cuz McCoy has been sucking as of late.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hey Zach,
I have a bout 5000 questions. I’ve never been in a more competitive league and my team is going to shambles!
I am out a D, I have the GB D which I needed to toss so I picked up the Cards. What do you think about that? I almost chanced it and picked up the Raiders, but they’re the Raiders! i’m reluctant.
WR – I’ve been TRYING to have faith in Boldin, but he’s flopping on me and I have very little support in the WR category. I currently have Boldin, Nelson (ouch, i know), VJax and Nate Washington on my roster. Dobson, Baldwin, Mike Brown, and Cooper are all still available. Which moves would you recommend?
RB – I currently I have DMC (ouch again!), DeMarco Murray who is completely unreliable, and Jacquizz Rodgers who’s becoming irrelevant. Shonn Green, Montee Ball, and Brian Leonard are available. With my Jamaal Charles on bye i’m at a loss. Moves there?
TE – Stick out Antonio Gates or pick up Coby Fleener?
K – no idea why but i had buffalo’s kicker still – so I dropped him for Prater.

QB – RG3 but there’s not much of anything better left there – anyone you would recommend i look into instead or should i tough it out? It’s a low scoring QB league so this really isnt a priority.
I really need some good points as this league is very cut throat. The different between first and last is a record of 6-3 and 3-6. And we only have 3 games left.
Thanks in advance for your help and I hope i didnt overload you too much!
