Few names have become hotter prior to today’s NFL trade deadline than that of Minnesota Vikings defensive end, Jared Allen. It’s been rumored for a few days now that the Vikings were aggressively attempting to trade Allen, much of it because they don’t feel as if they’ll be able to re-sign Allen who is a free agent at season end.

Per Around The League on NFL.com:

"According to Silver, the Minnesota Vikings are bracing for the loss of Allen in the offseason. They are not planning to pay the kind of big-money salary it would take to re-sign him on the open market."

Of course, Allen’s contract makes him a difficult trade as there are only a handful of teams around the league that could absorb such – even less that could take on the money and want/need Allen. So while the talented defender is very much available, actually being moved is a completely different story.

Either way, trade or not, it appears Allen’s time as a member of the Minnesota Vikings is ticking down quickly.
