San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh says he met face to face with outside linebacker Aldon Smith earlier Wednesday.

According to CSN Bay Area, Harbaugh talked about the sit down with Ric Bucher and Chris Townsend on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco.

Here is an excerpt from that interview:

"Harbaugh: “I met with him face to face today. Aldon was in the building … it was great to see the reaction of others who saw him and Aldon’s reaction of being back here with some of the guys. He looks great, and we’re having a good day. I mean that was the object of today, let’s have a great day. I think that’s the way Aldon’s approaching things, each day too … the goal to have a great day.”"

Townsend then asked Harbaugh if he thinks Aldon will play this season.

"Harbaugh: “Again, uh, you know I think the prudent thing to do is look at it day-to-day and have a goal of having a great day. He’s been taking that approach, really over the last five weeks. And it’s served him well and he’s made quite a bit of progress."

Earlier today, it was reported that Smith had turned himself in on federal weapon charges and immediately posted $75,000 bond.

Even with the new Harbaugh interview, it remains unclear if Smith will rejoin the team this season or if he will be punished by the NFL.  San Francisco has a bye this week before returning home to face the Carolina Panthers.
