Fantasy football pickup to make: Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington
By Jason Marcum
Arizona Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall was ruled out for Sunday’s contest vs the Atlanta Falcons, and that led to a big opportunity for rookie RB Andre Ellington. He took the opportunity and rushed for 154 yards on 15 carries and helped open the Cardinals’ offense in a 27-13 win over the Falcons. His breakout performance was highlighted by an 80-yard TD-run, and the former Clemson Tigers stud showed he’s capable of being a game-breaker at the NFL level.
Mendenhall and Ellington have both gotten plenty of carries for the Cardinals this year, but now that Cards Head Coach Bruce Arians sees that Mendenhall has been holding back what’s already a limited offense, he’ll see that Ellington needs to get more touches. The Cardinals have one of the worst rushing offenses in the NFL.
Ellington should be considered an RB2 or flex play or going forward. He’s on a bye week this week, and this has left him available in many fantasy football leagues, and you’d be foolish not to pick him up ASAP!
