Last night episode 1 of UFC Primetime: St-Pierre vs Hendricks aired. The show focuses on the two men participating in the main event of the evening at UFC 167 on November 16th. Johny Hendricks will finally get his long awaited title shot at the reigning Welterweight champion, Georges St Pierre.
Hendricks is on a six fight win streak in the UFC’s Welterweight division defeating some of the very best competition the UFC has to offer in that time. Hendricks has quick KO’s over Jon Fitch and Martin Kampmann, while winning decisions over Josh Koscheck, Mike Pierce, and most recently Carlos Condit. Hendricks, with his punching power and world-class wrestling, is looked at as GSP’s toughest test in a long time.
GSP has not lost since 2007, when Matt Serra shocked the MMA world and TKO’ed the champ. Since that night, GSP has reeled off 11 straight dominant victories, but the majority of them have been decisions. Many fans and critics of GSP are frustrated with his last few performances because he seems to have the ability to finish his opponents, but he plays it safe.
The news over the past few months has been about whether GSP still has the fire to compete, if he still wants to fight. Word came out that he may retire after this fight, and then conflicting reports said he was going to fight for years to come. Either way, GSP needs to have his full attention on Johny Hendricks come November 16th, or he may be sleeping on the mat.
