The results aren’t often pretty when the worlds of hip hop and sports intersect. While it’s wrong to begrudge someone for stepping outside their comfort zone and trying something new, it’s hard not to cringe when a talented athlete (incorrectly) assumes he is as adroit on the microphone as he is on the field.

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali is a different breed of athlete/rapper, though.

As was posted on Arrowhead Addict earlier today, Hali is featured on a song by KC recording artist Steven Cooper. Hali doesn’t rap much on the track — he has just a few quick bars near the end — but he’s actually…good. Like pretty damn good.

Check it out below (you can skip to the 2:52 mark if all you want to hear is Hali’s verse):

Personally, I’m pretty impressed by Hali’s talents. According to Steven Cooper’s manager, Hali has been “crafting his rap game for many years,” and the work has clearly paid off. So a hat tip to you, Hali. Keep on rockin’.
