It’s been over a month and a half since Aldon Smith took the field for the San Francisco 49ers, but it sounds likely he’ll do so this weekend against the Carolina Panthers, at least according to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Speaking to Matt Barrows, Fangio suggested that Smith would ‘play some’ in their Week 10 contest against the streaking Panthers:

"Vic Fangio on Aldon Smith playing vs. Panthers: “I’m sure he’ll play some.”"

Smith of course, who last played in Week 3 against the Indianapolis Colts checked himself into rehab for alcoholism, this after he was involved in a solo car crash.

It was the second time Smith had been cited for driving under the influence as a member of the 49ers. Smith is also currently undergoing federal weapons charges, though, that case is still in limbo.

The NFL has maintained silence on the Smith situation, allowing all facts to play out before they determine if they plan to suspend the talented though poor decision making linebacker.

If the league does not hand down any punishment in the next few days, it sounds as if Smith will be suiting up, though the Niners have said he’ll need to earn his spot back.
