Terrell Owens returns to 49ers as honorary captain
By Josh Sanchez
The one and only Terrell Owens is returning to Candlestick Park with the San Francisco 49ers in Week 10. Don’t worry, he won’t be taking the field as a player. Instead, he is set to serve as the honorary captain for the team’s match up with the Carolina Panthers as they remember one of his greatest plays from his time with the team.
San Francisco is celebrating the Top Ten 49ers Moments at Candlestick Park, and T.O.’s game-winning touchdown over the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 3, 1999 in the NFC Wildcard Playoffs checks in at No. 4 on the list.
From the 49ers official release:
"Owens’ game-winning touchdown catch in a 30-27 playoff win over the Green Bay Packers was selected as the No. 4 greatest moment in Candlestick Park. Owens famously caught a 25-yard touchdown from Steve Young to beat the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 3, 1999 in the NFC Wildcard Playoffs."
Owens still hopes that he can return to the field, but he appears to be realizing his playing days are over.
T.O. has stated that, if he is not signed by a team next season, he will retire.
