When was the last time that you’ve heard of punt returner getting flagged and fined for a facemask? It doesn’t seem to happen often, but it did happen to Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

According to Pro Football Talk, Jackson has been fined $7,875 by the league for facemasking Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King during Sunday’s blowout victory.

Jackson ended a 32-yard punt return by stiff-arming King. He the grabbed King’s facemask as King pushed him out of bounds. It was a obvious penalty and Jackson was flagged.

Despite being both flagged and fined for the play, Jackson showed the he might be Philadelphia’s best option in the return game. Last week was first time this season that Jackson was the main punt returner, and this 32-yard punt return was longest for the Eagles all season.

Even with potential injury and fatigue concerns, the Eagles should probably make Jackson the full-time punt returner over Damaris Johnson. The Eagles special teams could certainly use the boost as long as Jackson remembers not to touch the facemask next time.
