Arsenal and Manchester United are squaring off in a marquee match up. Arsenal is atop the league table while United is trying to climb back into contention.
A set piece was the difference. Robin van Persie scored with a header from the left side of the six yard box to the bottom right corner. Wayne Rooney got the assist with a cross following a corner.
There was a scary moment in the 41st minute when Phil Jones and Arsenal goal keeper Wojciech Szczesny banged heads. It was on a corner kick and Szczesny came out to punch the ball away. Jones came in attempting a header but was late and no where close. Instead his lower head went into Szczesny’s head. That resulted in a yellow card for Jones and a delay of game as Wojciech Szczesny was attended to by medical staff.
Arsenal came out playing strongly in the second half. They played with a lot of purpose but lacked precision at time. They were never able to get the game-tying goal either.
The loss narrows Arsenal’s lead in the league to two points over Liverpool. Manchester United moves closer to the top of the table with 3 points and now sits in fifth place.
