The Houston Texans released veteran safety Ed Reed on Tuesday afternoon, but it is another move that they made which will affect them on the field the most. Texans running back Arian Foster was attempting to avoid the injured reserve list, but that is what has happened.

Houston announced their decision to place Foster on the season-ending injured reserve list after the Reed move.

While he is set to have the rest of the year off, Foster will be undergoing back surgery.

You never want your top rusher to have a surgery to his back, but it is something that should heal in time for camp next year.

If the Texans have concerns about Foster being injury prone, they could decide to roll with Ben Tate, who is dealing with four broken ribs of his own, and Dennis Johnson next season. Foster has recorded 1,191 touches since the 2010 season, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they feel he is breaking down.
