Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested on Sunday for possession of marijuana. Bowe reportedly admitted to the arresting officer that he “had smoked a little while waiting at the airport,” according to a police report. The police officer also said he smelled marijuana and found marijuana in the car.

Bowe’s attorney is proclaiming his innocence already.

“My investigation reveals that Dwayne Bowe is unequivocally, 100% innocent in this matter,” attorney Kevin E. J. Regan told KMBC. “We look forward to clearing his good name at our earliest opportunity.”

Bowe has apologized for his arrest.

“I apologize to the Hunt Family, Coach Reid, my teammates and Chiefs fans for the distraction I have caused the team this week,” Bowe said in a statement. “Due to the nature of the pending matter, I am unable to make any further comment on the situation.”

Head coach Andy Reid wouldn’t comment on the arrest because it was an ongoing legal matter, but he did say he’d start.

“It is a legal matter and that’s the way we’ll handle it,” Reid said, via Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports. “Let it run its course there. Dwayne will play, he’ll start.”

Bowe has a court date on December 18th.
