The Kansas City Chiefs have been awarded former San Francisco receiver Kyle Williams off of waivers.

The 49ers had receiver problems after Michael Crabtree’s injury in the Fall camp and turned to Williams at the time, but with the continued increasing health of Quinton Patton and Mario Manningham they are set for now and there was just no room remaining in the lineup.

Williams had just 12 catches for 113 yards this season in extended time and did little with his return opportunities. LaMichael James had replaced Williams in an attempt to get more explosive special teams play.

For Kansas City Williams will provide some depth in the slot, especially as Dexter McCluster is a little banged up. Without the worries of being the return man (McCluster and Quintin Demps are doing just fine thank you), Williams can work on reestablishing his rapport with Alex Smith, who of course quarterbacked Williams in San Fran.
