San Francisco Pro Bowl left guard Mike Iupati left the 49ers’ game against the New Orleans Saints in the third quarter with an apparent left knee injury, and the pre-MRI signs don’t sound the greatest.

According to Matt Maiocco at CSN Bay Area – and multiple other sources — Iupati left the San Francisco locker room with his knee in a brace and on crutches.

Iupati was injured in the third quarter of the 49ers’ 23-20 loss to the Saints when running back Frank Gore rolled onto his leg after being tackled.  Adam Snyder replaced the injured Pro Bowler.

San Francisco cornerback Tarrel Brown was also injured in the game, sustaining an injury in the rib area in the second quarter that left him sidelined for the remainder of the game.

Brown was in “obvious discomfort” and had difficulty breathing according to the CSN Bay Area report.

The Brown injury opened the door for an Eric Wright debut for the 49ers, as he became the 3rd corner for the depleted San Francisco secondary.

San Francisco has not yet announced the extent of the injuries to either player.  More testing certainly needs to be done at this point, but losing either would be a blow to a reeling 49ers squad.
