The Houston Texans have been getting an offensive spark from quarterback Case Keenum. Against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, he were struggling to get the job done. That led head coach Gary Kubiak to make a switch and put in quarterback Matt Schaub instead.

“What was happening was, we had to make a lot of changes from a protection standpoint to handle some of the things they were doing,” Kubiak said, via the team’s website. “Trying to create some tempo and do that and it made it very tough on Case, in my opinion, being a young player. I knew that Matt could get done some of the things that I wanted to get done, real fast, and to give us a chance to win the football game. So that’s why I did it.”

That might seem like an excuse, but he is going back to Keenum for their Week 12 match up against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Case will start Sunday. I have total confidence in him,” Kubiak said.

Keenum said he was surprised by how the game went.

“I was surprised, obviously came into today expecting to play well,” Keenum said after the game. “I felt like I prepared extremely well. I had a good feeling coming into this week. I didn’t make the right plays at the right time, and I couldn’t keep the offense on the field in those critical third downs.”

Against the Jaguars he’ll get an opportunity to end the losing streak.
