The Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots game on Monday Night Football was a thrilling game. Things got chippy early in the game between Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib and Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith.

“Steve Smith is a.k.a. ‘Mighty Mouse.’ He ain’t going to back down,” quarterback Cam Newton said, via the USA Today. “He’s a tempo setter for this team. He’s been on this team longer than anyone. And he’s seen a lot of football.”

“And he gets excited when a challenge like this is presented to him. When a cornerback like this is matched up on him the entire game, whether it’s a pass play or a run play, he’s going to give him all he’s got.

“He did that tonight.”

Smith agreed, and enjoyed the fact that he got the better of Talib.

“Holding my leg and not letting me go? I play with my kids like that sometimes, but other than that, I really haven’t had that,” Smith said, smiling. “Just another notch on the bedpost.”

My favorite lines came from his post game interview with Albert Breer. He asked what happened on the touchdown to Ted Ginn and Smith says “poor tackling” and lets out a laugh.

Breer asks Smith what happened and Smith responds” “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask him cause he didn’t finish the game.”

“Ice up son, ice up.”
