Now Jon Heyman announced on Twitter that the New York Mets signed right handed outfielder Chris Young to a one year contract.

Before they signed Chris Young, I posted the other day that they were interested in free agents Nelson Cruz and Curtis Granderson. Right now it looks like the New York Yankees may be the favorite to sign Granderson.

So despite signing Chris Young, the New York Mets are still in the hunt for former Texas Ranger Nelson Cruz according to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter.

It makes sense that they would still be in the hunt for Cruz considering this team wants to add a lot of pop to their outfielding corps. Young may have some pop behind his bat, but Cruz is another story.

If this team had both Nelson Cruz and Chris Young on their team, they could easily turn things around. Now they wouldn’t be a team who could compete for the division right away, you need more than just these two. But they’ll be taking a step in the right direction and could get the attention of other big name players.

It’ll be interesting to see if the Mets can actually land Cruz who may be looking for a five year contract. A contract like that for a hitter like Cruz will come with a huge price tag.
