Kevin Garnett made his first return to Minnesota as a Net on Friday night, and things didn’t go so well.
The Nets came into this game just 3-8 on the season, and things are starting to get ugly in Brooklyn. They are playing a lot of iso-basketball, and the pieces haven’t been fitting well together.
The Wolves came out and scored 30 points in the first quarter, and never looked back. They led by 20 going into the half. The Nets starters all played under 27 minutes, and they played the kind of game that will get people fired, traded, or worse–if there is a worse. They shot just 39% from the field, and were never in this game.
The Wolves played a balanced game. Their starters all scored in double figures, and they had 35 bench points. Kevin Love had 17 points and 16 rebounds, Ricky Rubio added 12 points and 8 assists, and Nikola Pekovic had 15 points. They had only 8 turnovers on the night, but forced the Nets into 20 turnovers. They turned those turnovers into 17 fast break points, and led by 33 at one point in the game. Garnett had only 8 points in his return to the city that drafted him.
The Wolves got the win, 111-81. The Wolves move to 8-6, and the Nets are now 3-9, and are in some serious trouble.
