Report: Derrick Rose injury could lead to accelerated trade attempts for Luol Deng
By Josh Sanchez
The Chicago Bulls are once again going to be forced to deal without star guard Derrick Rose, who suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee. Rose’s knee injury will require surgery, so he will not be available anytime in the near future.
Without Rose, the Bulls chances of making a late postseason run are not looking good, so they could be looking to the future.
One player that could be on the move is Luol Deng, who is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Moving Deng would allow the Bulls to get something in return for him and potentially position themselves for a lottery pick.
From K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune:
"Knowing Rose would return, management kept the 2013-14 Bulls intact for one, final championship run. Whether the reshaping of the roster, widely assumed to transpire next summer, will be accelerated could depend on for how long Rose is sidelined. If Rose misses the remainder of the season, attempts to trade Luol Deng, who can walk as an unrestricted free agent next summer, could be accelerated."
It’s shaping up to be another disappointing season for Bulls fans and it wouldn’t get any easier if the fans have to deal with the loss of another one of their stars.
