The Detroit Lions weren’t expected to have much trouble with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this afternoon, though, things didn’t exactly get started off on the right foot for the Lions and quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Just minutes into the first quarter, Stafford dropped back to pass and looked to have solid protection, but attempted to force a throw into traffic. Those seemingly never work out and playing true to form, the ball was intercepted though it wasn’t without some controversy.

The pass was deflected and appeared to hit the turf, but Lavonte David was able to dive and secure the pigskin before it hit the ground. How he pulled that off – I have no idea, but nobody in the Lions press box felt it was close enough to challenge and Tampa Bay secured the interception without a challenge.

The interception resulted in an eventual field goal for the Buccaneers, giving them a 3-0 lead at the time.
