The Los Angeles Lakers built a 34-18 lead at the end of the first quarter and pushed the lead to as large as 27, before holding off a late rally by the Brooklyn Nets to hang on for a 99-94 road victory on Wednesday night.

Nick Young came off of the bench to score a season-high 26 points while veteran power forward Pau Gasol poured in 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Lakers, who where wearing their “Hollywood nights” jerseys.

Joe Johnson scored 18 points to lead the Nets, but shot just six-of-19 from the field. Andray Blatche added 14 points and eight rebounds.

The Nets, as a team, were just 31-of-83 (37.3% from the field). The only really efficient and productive Net was reserve forward Mirza Teletovic, who had 17 points on four-of-eight shooting and pulled down five rebounds in just 21 minutes of play.

The Lakers’ offense wasn’t very good either and struggled mightily after getting a huge lead. The Nets managed to tie the game at 92, but a bucket by Wesley Johnson and a free throw from Steve Blake pushed the lead back to three. Veteran Paul Pierce, who shot just four-of-17 from the field, had a chance to tie the game with two seconds remaining, but his three-pointer would not fall.

The Lakers are now 8-8 on the year while the Nets fall to 4-11.
