Denver Broncos starting running back Knowshon Moreno is dealing with a bone bruise in his right ankle. Moreno’s status for Sunday’s big AFC West match up against the Kansas City Chiefs is in serious jeopardy and he has not been practicing with the team this week.

With Moreno out, rookie running back Montee Ball has been taking the first-team reps in practice.

If Ball is forced to start, the Broncos will need to seriously worry about turning over the ball because Ball has been known to have some issues hanging on to the ball this season. Kansas City can aggressively try to strip the rusher to create game-changing turnovers.

Behind Ball on the depth chart will be fellow rookie C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman, who has been a relative non-factor this season and a healthy scratch for the past month.

Denver would like to get a running game going at Arrowhead to take some pressure off of Peyton Manning and the passing game, but it is going to be much harder to get things going against Kansas City especially if Moreno is unable to take the field.
