The Carolina Panthers haven’t used Cam Newton to run much this season, likely attempting to preserve his legs for a possible postseason run in addition to playing it safe regarding potential injury.
But when Newton hits the burners, it’s an impressive sight which is exactly what took place during the first quarter of the Panthers-Buccaneers game Sunday afternoon.
With just under eight minutes left in the first quarter, Newton dropped back to pass on a 2nd and 11. Finding nobody open and the pass rush closing in, the Panthers quarterback (who just so happened to be rocking some Batman cleats today) took off in impressive fashion, shaking off at least six potential tacklers en route to a 56-yard gain.
The Buccaneers were able to get a finger on Cam just moments before he broke it to the house, which momentarily saved a touchdown though a few players later, Newton hit Brandon LaFell in the back of the end zone giving Carolina a 7-0 lead.
