Earlier this week, the San Francisco 49ers said wide receiver Michael Crabtree would make his season debut, this after missing the first twelve weeks thanks to an offseason Achilles injury.

It was expected the team would work him in slowly and hope he’d be able to contribute on a full-time basis come the final week or two of the season. That still might be the plan, but the 49ers did pull a somewhat shocking move today announcing they would start the talented wideout in their afternoon matchup against the St. Louis Rams.

Per the 49ers official social media account:

"#49ers WR @KingCrab15 will start."

That of course doesn’t mean Crabtree will play heavy snaps, though, it’s certainly a sign the 49ers are feeling relatively comfortable with their top wide receiver.

Reports out of 49ers practices have suggested the former Texas Tech receiver has looked very good in his first few workouts, which should help the struggling 49ers offense get back on track.
